A foreboding message from Rep. Ron Paul (R-TX), a physician, should give us pause: "When we give government the power to make medical decisions for us, we, in essence, accept that the state owns our bodies."
Two sets of parents in Belgium were recently handed five-month prison terms for failing to vaccinate their children against polio. Each parent was also fined 4,100 euros ($8,000). Ah… but that is Europe, you say. Things are different over there – such a thing could never happen in the USA. Think again.
Recently (Nov., 2007) State and County officials in Maryland announced they would send parents to jail if they don't submit their children to forced vaccinations. State Attorney General Glenn F. Ivey has announced he is willing to criminalize parents if they don't bring them to the courthouse to have them injected, on the spot, with vaccines that contain methyl mercury -- a highly toxic nerve chemical that causes brain damage and is linked to autism. The parents of more than 2,300 Prince George's County students who failed to get needed vaccinations could face fines of $50 a day and up to 10 days in jail if their children do not meet the state's immunization requirements.
All states have some provisions for parents to file for an exemption from vaccinating their children. However, in Maryland, no one told any of these parents. It is really interesting that the prosecutor, Mr. Ivey, refuses to vaccinate his own children. California, along with most other states allows for philosophical and religious objections to vaccination. However, if someone at the school where your un-vaccinated child attends decides that there is a risk that your child was exposed to one of the diseases that the vaccinations cover, they can bar your child from attending school. The alternative would be to home school your child, but the state are moving against this as well, as a recent decision in a California Appeals court demonstrated when it ruled that parents must be credentialed in order to home school their own children.
What many people don’t realize is just how many vaccinations every school-aged child is mandated to receive. American children are being told by government health officials and pediatricians to get 48 doses of 14 vaccines by age six and 53-56 doses of 15 or 16 vaccines by age 12.
This, of course, is big business for Big Pharma and all related professionals who are involved in creating and administering these drugs. In May 2007, CNN Money reported predictions that vaccine industry sales will more than double by 2010. We have even seen attempts by Merck, the maker of a HVP vaccine, to lobby Congress to make the vaccine mandatory for all girls. This would have entailed vaccinating all girls for sexually transmitted disease, before they even reach puberty. Merck ceased their lobbying when the proposal became controversial.
Many parents are starting to fight back the coercive tactics of politicians, Big Pharma, and bureaucrats. Physicians are getting bombarded with concerns from parents about the safety of childhood immunizations. Parents are doing research on the Internet, and finding that many vaccines are either completely unnecessary, or extremely dangerous.
One study found 93 percent of pediatricians and 60 percent of family physicians said at least one parent had refused a vaccine for their child in 2003. Within this year, 69 percent of the physicians said that the number of concerns from parents had increased significantly. The study also found that pediatricians were twice as likely to admit that refusals of the vaccines were on the rise.
The study showed 74 percent of physicians said they discussed the refusal with the parent. Many of the parents who refused vaccines were asked to sign refusal forms, and 10 percent of physicians asked the parents to find another physician.
The concerns from parents are due to the increasing information found in news stories, Internet sites and word-of-mouth reports that warn of harmful effects. These potential effects are linked to autism, autoimmune diseases, compromised immunity, learning disabilities, diabetes and paralysis, according to a study that randomly surveyed 750 pediatricians and 750 family physicians.
